Boat Trailer Access

There are a few different areas that clubs can boat from. The most popular is the city (start line), meaning crews row back to the city after the presentations at the conclusion of the race. Alternatively there is the Powerhouse / Wesley area near Herring Island which is about mid way along the course, or Hawthorn Rowing Club precinct (finish line). Clubs that park their trailer in the Hawthorn Rowing Club precinct must move their trailer out of the area by 7pm on the Friday before race day. Clubs are advised that the River is closed in 2007 from 7.30am on race day, so it is recommended that all crews rowing to the city from alternative stagings aim to arrive in the city before 7.30am.

City (Start line) boat trailer access:

IF YOU REQUIRE BOAT TRAILER ACCESS IN THE CITY please advise by email to hoy-enq@hawthornrowingclub.com no later than Wednesday prior to race day.

Access for pre-arranged Club Boat Trailers will be permitted from 6.30am to 8am on race day. This is a strict requirement by Melbourne City Council. A Marshall will be on duty at the entry to the City Boat Sheds area. Parking Officers will also be on duty. This access is only to unload boats, and not to park the trailer.

Hawthorn Rowing Club / Finish line access:

As a courtesy please also notify by email to hoy-enq@hawthornrowingclub.com no later than Wednesday prior to race day of your intention to bring your trailer into this vicinity. Clubs that park their trailer in the Hawthorn Rowing Club precinct must move their trailer out of the area by 7pm on the Friday before race day.

To access HRC / Yarra Bank Reserve please note: Boat trailers can only approach the driveway entrance to Yarra Bank Reserve from Denham Street - ie straight on. Do not attempt to approach the driveway entrance to Yarra Bank Reserve from Creswick Street. The left hand turn from Creswick Street into the driveway entrance to Yarra Bank Reserve .

On race day only, trailers may be parked in Creswick st (between Bridge and Denham) subject to availability.  This road is specifically closed for trailer parking on the day. (Road is closed until 6pm).

Getting to HRC by road:

1. From the M1 Freeway / Monash Freeway take the Burnley Street Exit (Melways Map 2H, Reference D12).

2. Proceed North along Burnley Street, crossing railway lines and Swan Street. The next major intersection is Bridge Road (approx 1.5 kms from Freeway exit).

3. Turn right (east) into Bridge Road.

4. Continue along Bridge Road. After 750m you will be on Hawthorn Bridge crossing the Yarra River (the HOY finish line). (Melway Map 2H, ref H7). Keep to the left as you cross the Hawthorn Bridge. After you cross the bridge there is a fork in the road. Take the fork to the left - Church Street (route 36). Do not turn left into Creswick Street if you have a trailer (you may if you are in a car, in which case jump to point 6)!

5. After 200m, turn left into Denham Street - (Melway Map 2H, ref J6). You should now be driving west.

6. Drive 150m to the intersection of Denham Street and Creswick Street. At this intersection, you will see the driveway entrance to the Yarra Bank Reserve. (Directly in front of you when approaching from Denham Street, or to your left / opposite Denham Street when approaching from Creswick Street via Bridge Road).

7. Follow the driveway all the way down. Once you pass under the Hawthorn Bridge you are there!
